Since the 2000s, while the function of poetry and the readers’ response to it have been debated, many new poetry magazines have emerged, along with a community of young poets gathered around them. Aslı Serin, one of the poets who has written in the magazine Heves and writes poems that exemplify the genre often referred to as “experimental poetry”, is a leading poet of this generation. Serin, who has three poetry collections: bu benim. zip (2007), Dans Etmesek de Olur (2012) and Değil (2017), writes poetry in the postmodern era, where the lyrical subject has been fragmented. She tells mostly of the experiences of the “self”, daily life, social issues and the states of womanhood. Serin’s poems, which are notable for their strong emphasis on the self, sometimes resembles the “confessional poetry” movement and makes extensive use of intertextual relationships. This study, which approaches Aslı Serin’s poetry from a holistic perspective, will examine the thematic underpinnings of Serin’s poetry and then evaluate the language and narrative choices that integrate with this theme. While poetic language was significantly transformed and everyday language found widespread use in the 2000s, humor and irony also frequently appear in Aslı Serin’s poetry. Serin’s attempts to achieve a feminine language and discourse, particularly in her poems that explore family and domestic settings, are evident. The study concludes by identifying Serin’s position within her generation through the language and narrative strategies that shape her poetics.
