DESIRING THE OTHER'S DESIRE AROUND THE MOTHER IMAGE

In this study, the visibility of desire in literature around the image of the mother in Aylak Adam and Yüksek Topuklar novels. C. and Nermin's stories reflect the tragic processes shaped by internal deficiencies, identity search and social pressures. C. is dragged into a search within fatherlessness and identity void. While the emotional absence of her father becomes apparent as a reaction against the social order, the existence of her aunt Zehra is both the symbol of her desire and a reflection of her fear of symbolic castration. However, C.'s search is never fully satisfied; she lives a life disconnected from the social order with a constant feeling of emptiness and loneliness. Similarly, Nermin's story points to an identity crisis shaped by the emotional absence of her mother and the indifference of her father. Her mother's past traumas and Nermin's problems regarding her femininity create a constant inner emptiness and search. However, Nermin experiences an internal transformation by confronting her past and resolving her dependency on her mother. The act of putting on high heels is a symbol of this transformation and symbolizes Nermin's entry into a process of social and psychological liberation. What this study reveals is that desire is always dependent on the desire of the Other. This desire is first the desires of the mother and father, who are the first Others. Then, the expectations of society from people are presented to the individual as if they were his own desire. Contrary to popular belief, the subject does not have a desire independent of the Other and will never have one. Because desire is always the desire of the Other. For this reason, both characters experience a search for identity shaped by loss and deficiencies. While C. is dragged along by the absence of a father and his desire, Nermin embarks on a path of liberation by overcoming a void created by the emotional absence of her mother. The stories of both characters reveal how internal voids and traumas, the image of the mother play a decisive role in identity formation processes and the necessity of confronting the past for liberation.
