THE PHENOMENON OF DEVIANCY IN TURKISH NOVEL; A READING ATTEMPT ON MECDI SADREDDIN'S NOVEL CENNET HANIM

From the beginning to the 1940s, the most important theme in the Turkish novel was Westernization. Mecdi Sadreddin's novel "Cennet Hanım" was initially published in 1927 but was ignored for years because it did not address the theme of Westernization. However, despite being ignored, "Cennet Hanım" has become one of the pioneering novels in Turkish novels, both in terms of its theme and the way it works. With its content, Cennet Hanım is a pioneering novel according to the period in which it was published. The most important innovation of the content is the perverse efforts of the characters to meet pleasure and pleasure on the shores of life. Deviation here refers to the departure from the accepted norms of one's culture in pursuing pleasure and enjoyment. In the novel, the characters break away from the accepted norms of their culture in their pursuit of pleasure and enjoyment throughout their lives. This is because they cannot find sufficient stimuli within the realm of everyday life and resort to deviant paths. The strategy of the deviant towards their objects of desire operates through the principle of "both... and. Hafide, the protagonist of "Cennet Hanım desire is deviant because she fantasizes about implementing both desires: "either messing up Sadun's curly hair or being ravaged in Bülent's arms." Similarly, Sadun Bey, despite being married to Hafide, suggests having a forbidden relationship with Cennet Hanım. With this emotional orientation of someone who loves his mother/Cennet Hanım/Sadun Bey's wife/Hafide, Bülent takes a perverse orientation towards violating the incest prohibition.
