Oğuz Atay stands out as one of the most notable names in 20th century Turkish literature. He lived in a time when Turkey was breaking out of its shell and opening up to the world, while the world was undergoing a serious transformation in the opposite direction. The remnants and effects of World War I had not yet been forgotten when the Second World War brought up a universal existential problem. The fear, anxiety, and similar issues created by these wars had significant psychological and philosophical effects, which also affected life, art, and literature. Therefore, the great artistic and literary activities that emerged worldwide caught the attention of modern Turkish intellectual Oğuz Atay and influenced and nourished his literary works.

Through his literary works, he became the true spokesperson of the crises and processes experienced by both his era and Turkey. In his works, we can see the traces of deep mental wounds awakened by various factors, from philosophical tendencies to literary tendencies, from country realities to global realities.
