FROM THE EXPLORING TO THE REBIRTH: THE NOVEL MATMAZEL NORALİYANIN KOLTUĞU IN CONTEXT OF ARCHETYPAL ANALYSIS
The novel Matmazel Noraliya’nın Koltuğu by PeyamiSafa (1899-1961) is one of the original works of Turkish literature in terms of its narrative techniques and theme. In the novel, the internal travel of the protagonist Ferit, which lasts from struggle with the shadow archetype to the exploring and from the exploring to the rebirth, is reflected with a narrative technique that is combined with inner monologue and stream of consciousness. The novel Matmazel Noraliya’nın Koltuğu was analyzed formerly with its different aspects in independent studies on Peyami Safa’s works and on the novel in particular. The novel Matmazel Noraliya’nın Koltuğu is appropriate to be examining in archetypal analysis. The word archetype literally means first example, prototype. Archetypal analysis method researches roots of archetypes and how they reflect on literary works. In this study, the novel Matmazel Noraliya’nın Koltuğu has been examined according to the archetypes such as “the shadow”, “the persona”, “the explorer”, “the wise man” and “the rebirth”.
