AN INTERPRETATION OF HOME AND SURROUNDING OBJECTS IN İLHAN BERK’S POETRY REFERRING TO CARL GUSTAV JUNG’S WORD ASSOCIATION METHOD
İlhan Berk, who masters quite spesific methods to reveal the caotic image, deeper meaning and sounds into his poetic diction, is a prominent poet. This article discusses whether the “Word Association Method” theorized by Carl Gustav Jung helps the reader interprete İlhan Berk’s surrealist poetry, buried deeply amoung underground water, consisted of unusual syntax, word and semantic deviations. The article also aims to search and bring light to the efficiency of Jung’s “Word Association Method” in assisting, analizing and interpreting Berk’s complicated language of poetry rooted from his sub-conscious mind, known as a kind of “open work” which is accompanied with unusual cohesions, word order, grammatical structure with reference to the object of home and the various objects surrounding it. As a consequence of our study, we have inferred that İlhan Berk has extensively reflected his subconscious mind in his poetry by referring symbolicly to the objects of “home” and the other objects surrounding it.
