THE QUESTIONING OF EXISTENCE IN HİLMİ YAVUZ’S “POEMS OF DESERT”
By virtue of his extensive cultural background Hilmi Yavuz attempts to fill the emptiness created by modern world with his “authentic poetry” reflecting the Oriental and Western tradition. He presents “Poems of Desert” nourished by Oriental and Western resources as a reflection of the embracement between tradition and modernity. The meaning born by the ‘Desert’ since the existence of mankind is resurrected in Hilmi Yavuz’s poetry. Every single reader shall reconstruct in his mind the desert with unique personal associations. Likewise in present paper within the framework of Hilmi Yavuz’s “Poems of Desert” the focus shall be on the position of desert in existence and the position of man as an entity in the desert.
