Throughout his/her life, a person experiences two anxiety situations. Absence and existence anxiety. Absence anxiety is the anxiety of being swallowed up by the sensations of finitude and mortality. Being anxiety, on the other hand, is the realization that what one rejects belongs to one's own and at such times, it is an anxiety of turning into what he/she rejects. Anxiety is not seen clearly in a person's life. It appears mostly on objects of fear. This is because the person struggles with fear more easily. That is why in the literary images of fear are not anxiety itself but a kind of symptoms. At this point, the literary work not only gives the visible and conscious fear of the person, but also makes the unconscious anxiety visible. For example, in Cahit Zarifoğlu's poem, the fear caused by the eyes carved in old paintings is mentioned. In this image, consciously, while the fear of being followed constantly is processed, the anxiety of being swallowed unconsciously is expressed. Because the person is often afraid of the eyes in old pictures that follow his/her. On the contrary, Zarifoğlu is afraid of carved pictures. Because while he wants the eyes to notice and follow him, he desires to watch himself from the eyes. In this way, it both ensures its existence in life and creates a meaning by watching itself in the eyes. In the absence of eyes that bear witness to existence and meaning, the poet comes face to face with the anxiety of absence / swallowing. This is not the conscientious guilt, which is a moral law, but the anxiety of self-destruction by the person who carries the comfort. At this point, the moral law / conscience is actually the eye we want it to follow.
