THE CONSTRUCTION OF DOUBLE AS A ROMANTIC NOVEL TECHNIQUE
The double, one of the themes of romanticism, was considered as a psychological problem and interpreted about psychology in literature. But the double is also a romantic literary technique. However, psychiatrists worked more on literature than literary critics. Literary texts form the basis of Otto Rank's work on this subject. In Turkish literature, it is necessary to wait for Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil for the double theme in the western sense. The authors like Peyami Safa, Sabahattin Ali, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Oguz Atay, Orhan Pamuk have developed this theme in various ways, have dealt with different techniques. In this article, three important novels using this technique in Turkish literature - Aşk-ı Memnû, İçimizdeki Şeytan and Huzur- are tried to be interpreted in this respect based on Rank's The Double.
