Abstract

THE CONCEPT OF OBJECT FROM THE USE VALUE TO PSYCHIC VALUE OF THE SIGN IN THE NARRATIVES OF SAIT FAIK ABASIYANIK
When we examine Sait Faik Abasıyanık’s narratives through the issue of entity, we obseve self-query as well as nonself-query. The individual who is aware of his own consciousness, in his self-definition, attempts to create free spaces by slipping away from sovereignty of dominant authoritarian caste, and expresses his existence with negative or positive inferences over the individual and the whole in the conscious of the individual. Also in this expression nonself objects find a distinctive place. In his narratives, Sait Faik uses the objects mostly in terms of their need values as well as in terms of their economic sign values. Thus, he refers to the effect of figurativeness of the object on the class differentiation existing in society. Beyond this, as a result of the spiritual relationship he creats with the objects, Sait Faik also allows environmental entities to give meaning to his own existence. Sait Faik Abasıyanık prefers to come closer to the object when he could not develop intimacy with human, nature and environment. He tries to explain his state of mind through the symbolic reflections of his emotions over them. He gets closer if the symbolised object sets the entity free and moves away if the object restricts it. The article that is thought to contribute to the explanation of the issue of entity and existence in Sait Faik Abasıyanık’s narratives, the relationship of the individual with the object is adressed within the frame of; use value, economic value of the sign and psychic value of the sign. These signs that can be evaluated according to individual’s perspective, are mainly based on the concept of "patetik fallacy" and inferences are tried to be obtained from the point of meanin that can be identified as “psychic sign value” being formed as a result of the spiritual relationship with the object.
