A ESSAY CONCERNING “YENİLEŞME DÖNEMİ TÜRK EDEBİYATINDA ARUZ ARAYIŞLARI”
This paper is a critical review of the work published by Erdoğan Erbay under the title Yenileşme Dönemi Türk Edebiyatında Aruz Arayışları. Not only does it deal with vi- ews launched by Erbay on the efforts in seeking for Aruz in poetry along with the Serveti Fünun period, but also it draws attention to certain misconceptions based on the article, i.e. “Şiir Nedir?” which was attributed to Nâbizâde Nâzım. More specifically this paper points out that Erbay fails to make necessary references to Türk Edebiyatında Hece-Aruz Tartışmaları, an important work which he makes apparently use of it in every part of his work, and that he does not give room to the issue of syllabic and free meter in his work concentrating on efforts in seeking for meter in Servet-i Fünun Poetry.
