TO INTERPRET THE INTELLECTUAL IDENTITY TOWARDS REPUBLICAN IDEOLOGY IN PARALLEL WITH “TUTUNAMAYANLAR” AND “ÖLMEYE YATMAK”
Intellectual identity occupy an important place in Oğuz Atay and Adalet Ağaoğlu’s novels, who are the noteworthy authors of Turkish postmodern fiction. In this article, the relations between the intellectual
and the official ideology of the republican era have been analyzed by based on the novels Tutunamayanlar and Ölmeye Yatmak. In both novels, the impacts of tradition-modernity clash on intellectuals is highlighted. In our treatise, Oğuz Atay and Adalet Ağaoğlu’s critical attitude towards socio-political circumstances of the initial years of the republican era is argued in the novels.
