TRACES OF EXISTENTIALISM IN STORIES BY YUSUF ATILGAN
Existentialist philosophy took place in literatüre almost as soon as it came into being. Existentialist soffer their ideas through novels and dramas instead of directly prenting them as philosophical systems. In general, as a system of thought presnting the existence of people following modernity, existentialism also finds a place in Turkish literature. In poetry, it forms the basis of II. Yeni movement and it also had a great impact on novels and stories produced in the same period. In the post-50s Turkish literature, there are some remarkable traces of existentialism in the novels and stories by Oğuz Atay and Yusuf Atılgan. Yusuf Atılgan, particularly known for his novels, works on the same themes in both his novels and stories. In his stories he focuses particularly on man’s loneliness, fragmented mood and the questioning of his existence. In this study, we will focus on the reflections of existentialism in Yusuf Atılgan’s stories.
