IDENTITY, BELONGING AND ANXIETY IN THE NOVEL OF ALMAN TERBİYESİ

The individual who set out with the promise of being the object of modern times has dragged into depression only as a “residue” element of modern times. Thus, the modern individual has been left alone with her delirium in the wars, economic crisis, data bombardment and locality/globality dilemmas. The delirium in question has elaborate ontology which has inherited from previous century. In this complexity, the individual is swept away. As a result of sway, the modern individual shows anxiety -centered symptomps. Therefore, characteristic of the modern individual is anxiety and the two of reason for her anxiety may be considered as identity and belonging. It’s seen that Salih which the protagonist Zafer Şenocak’s novel of Alman Terbiyesi is in a similiar depression with his Turkish-German identity in the middle of two world war. Depression is primarily the general character of in century in the atmosphere of wars. On the other hand, “homelessness” which appeared itself in two different lands, is another main element that triggers the depression. Thus, the soldier Salih has experienced problem of identity and belonging along with existentialist line and intensified his anxiety as a both outcome of this whole process and modern times. The questionst which Salih’s asked himself has created a gulf and Salih has got lost in it.
