WRITING THE CITY: FROM ARAGON’S PARIS TO ILHAN BERK’S GALATA AND PERA
İstanbul was the subject of İlhan Berk's first poetry book named “İstanbul” in 1947.? About 40 years later, İlhan Berk published “Galata” in 1985, in varied literary genres and different writing techniques, and in 1990, he published “Pera”. Stating that he was influenced by the method of the book “Paris Peasant” which was written by the French writer Louis Aragon in 1925; Ilhan Berk outlined traditional narrative forms such as Aragon’s and created a fragmented poetic text with different literary genres.
