VIEV OF IZMIR AND IZMIR FIRE THROUGH THREE CURRENT NOVELS OF THREE AUTHORS OF IZMIR
While evaluating the history, culture, and architecture of a city, looking at these items through literary works may contribute to some extent to different attentions, to different points of view related to the city. The İzmir fire incident, which has been the subject of various researches both domestic and foreign, has an important place both in İzmir city history and in the history of Turkish National Struggle. Four days after the liberation of İzmir, the Izmir fire which started on September 13, 1922 and continued for two and a half days, brought many negative effects on material and spiritual dimension to the city. Such an important event in terms of our history has also been found its reflections in today's literature through some İzmir writers. The traces of these reflections have been tried to be emphasized with the main lines through the point of view of the three Izmir authors within the frame of this article. In this context, the first of the novels studied is the Dido: Bir İzmir Romanı published by Efe Moral in 2014; the second is Mehmet Coral's novel named İzmir: 13 Eylül 1922 published in 2003; the last is Ferda Bozoklar Ardalı’s novel named Eleni’nin Kızı Halime published in 2011. In addition, the changing appearances of İzmir during the historical process of events have been emphasized by the aspects reflected in the novels. On the other hand, elements such as the general appearance of pre-fire and post-fire İzmir, social, cultural and architectural texture have been tried to be evaluated with remarkable aspects in the works. Therefore, it is aimed to make a small contribution to the studies on city history with new and different perspectives brought by looking on literary works to İzmir and İzmir fire.
